It's not just about training all the time.. even tho there was a time when thats all I did!!! everyday..!! But after years learning its more about the balance of it all and having found a great way to recovery and still have fun "sea swimming" Its great way to relax YES I know your all thinking how if its so cold but like anything the more you do it the better you get at it.. sea is always cold in Ireland even in the summer, but really is it that cold? NO!!! its just all in the head!!! the best Tip I can give is just get in and don't stand around thinking about how cold it is cause all your doing if feeling cold thinking about it!.. by the time you do get in your COLDER!!! so go for wee run then jump in have some fun RELAX and soon to be holding a nice warm cup of Tea "saying how COOL was that I feel great" well thats what I say!!! Then some fire roads to Drumgoff. meeting the Wicklow Way, through Lugduff ridge and Spinc for super views. Then loop was all done. To end super good day on the mountains with great people and for the cool down that was needed we had very nice COLD river hip deep. Big thanks for all the runners as few of the group was 1st time doing longer then 20k. So till more updates ill talk to you all soon.. Peace and stay fit. GO GO GO its all Go...
All go in a good way !! its been a while since I gave a good write up here. am sorry for the delay, but so many things going on over the last few weeks. and with all my training & group runs & Hikes planned I just never got time to sit down & write my blog and now its all coming out! so sit down have a nice cup of tea and have fun!.. MSR Team were planning and training hard for the Wicklow Way 127km Relay Race that IMRA had on last weekend & there is the Solo ultra race, the Relay that MSR team done its 127km but over 8legs, each leg is ran by MSR team member & each leg can be ran from 8 - 22km and we all tag each other at each gate from the start in Kilmashogue to Shillelagh along the Wicklow Way. Great day and great fun. our team ran super fast 10mins ahead of our planned times.. we came in 18th of 28 teams over all & Total time was 9:33:04 so we were very happy as our 1st long team race with few little complications !! so roll on next year and the race is on!... Some photos from our race on my MSR Facebook page.. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.544623992312640.1073741871.263214820453560&&uploaded=97 So this race was our 2nd MSR team race and am sure there is many more to come.. Big thanks to all that joined my teams.. So from this race I needed a few days rest as I ran fast and maybe to fast for me as am I slow runner and ran 2 legs but only raced 1 leg. I wanted to help my team member with her leg as she wasn't 100% sure about the way and as a team member I didn't want anyone getting lost etc. so ran 19k in time of 1:20 which was my fastest run on trails ever!!! but with that kind of speed & not used to it I had few sore pains in my legs but soon went away!! And was back out running and took my "4rd beginners trail run" 3days later which was a great evening out sunny and warm, there was a good group of 10 runners and I had a great 10k loop planned for them all.. Most of the the new runners were used to road running and just getting into trail running, with most of my beginner routes I make up a nice loop with many nice single trails so they can all find out what trail and mountain running is all about and this route has it all!.. Always happy to guide runners around the trails and mountains.. more pics to see on this link from our bringers trail run.. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.543793429062363.1073741870.263214820453560& And just when you think I should rest up a few pals asked me to race the Wednesday night IMRA race with them and said I would for the fun of it put my legs were little bit tried but still had a super good time with the great new route to run as IMRA now have to do new loop routes which make it more fun in my books!... For more info on mountains IMRA race look on their link... www.imra.ie Roll on for the next race am hoping I'll be full of good juju!!! Very happy with all your kind emails from people saying nice things about my interview with "Irish Runner Magazine" its always nice to hear that your all out running and trying hard to stay fit. O yes juju is back sea swimming again and what a great feeling to be in the cold Irish sea and NO I don't wear a wet or any suits!!!... the feeling of the water on my skin is the best feeling ever!!! try it and great for recovery.. OK people for now I think its time to get out and run!... hope to see and meet you all very soon on the hills hiking biking or running... Peace Super Good 10k beginners trail run with 10 great runners to guide...
this was my 4rd beginners trail run and what a great run we all had. I set up a nice little route for them all with lots of single trails, woods & open mountains with wet / mucky paths to give them all a good feeling of trail and mountain running much more been a great all over 10k loop, we all had a super good time. always helps when the sun is out and warm too., as you can see in my Pics... hope to see you all out again soon. peace Ok Runners pick one?
Do you think The Kerry Way or Lord Brandon's cottage through The Black valley. Up Cahir, Carrauntoohill & then down the Hydro road for pints and food in the climbers inn at Glencar? or somewhere around Connemara Mountains? am just asking for now then soon as I think we have a good plan I'll book the mini bus and off we go and its a camping weekend as well hope your all good with this.. event page will be all made up too with all the info needed.. you can also email on [email protected] to chat.. peace What another great week of training with so many great people..
after my last update with the Thursday Evening Spinc 13k loop Run It was all go.. non stop with meetings in Dublin and training. from cycling to yoga and some sleep ! The weekend came in fast and the 2nd group run of the week had a nice turn out of 12 people new and old faces always good to see! so we all took off fast and strong along the Green road and up some fire roads to meet the summit of Derrybawn at 482m with some non stop good hills to run up! at this point your hate rate would be well warmed up hehehe !!! few others had turned back just before we hit them hills as we're running to fast and went of on their own run. ( I did say it was going to be a tough run ) so on with the run and we ran good to start of Mullacor when the bad weather turned on us all and got very MAD!!! Cold, Fog, Wind and rain! ( all the things I love about trail running & hiking ) but few of the group wanted to turn back as they not had the right gear on or was training the day before, so rest of us headed up to the Summit of Mullacor 665m and couldn't see anything on the way up but deep fog ( great fun ) most of the others ran ahead as didn't want to get cold while I waited for the others behind as didn't want them getting lost in the fog and few of us ran into the bog holes knee deep good fun but really takes the power out of your running!! one of the lads had to get his hands all dirty trying to find his shoe that the bog took on him hehehe ( am sure them bogs have many things in them ha ! ) so soon made it off Mullacor and met with the others then ran up to Lugduff where we all said we won't head up to the summit of Lug' and just turn off to head down to the Spincs and do the loop there so on we ran off to stay warm as it was very cold and last thing we wanted was to get stiff legs !! soon came the Spincs and we took left turn unto the sleepers and we all ran fast around to meet the Zig Zags and down to the Miners Roads and end... Hope you all had a good run people and I hope to see you all again soon.. don't let the mountains weather put you off!!!! So from living the group back at the end I was still feeling good and wanted to stay out running and went on for few more km's and ran up along the Wicklow Way to the River for a nice cold dip for my legs after a tough run but happy with it all. Came home with 26:38km and some happy faces... And Ive got a wee head cold at the mo so want to be fully headed for my race and always get a head cold after flying somewhere must be something in the planes I was in Hamburg last weekend, So now its going to be some rest as am racing the IMRA Relay race with my MSR team my leg is only 11k but I still like to be fast and feeling good on the day.. "Irish Runner Magazine" to be on sale very soon 24 -25th of May so I've been told, and its a must buy if you want to read about my life story and where I've came from to now, Ken Cowley done a great job with my interview and its a must to read as its my first and hope not last ! https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.538754606232912.1073741868.263214820453560& https://www.facebook.com/IrishRunnerMagazine?fref=ts https://www.facebook.com/ken.cowley?fref=ts Peace |
