Anyone up for a night run this week?
Tuesday the 30th at 7pm Laragh - Brockagh School Car-park, Run up Wicklow W - Paddock Hill - Brusher Gap - Dry Hill with loop back down to Paddock Hill - WW - then up Brockagh Woods around & down to hotel its in around 15k with some great hills and mucky trails. trail shoes is a must on this route and working head lights ( time to test your xmas gifts!! ) also wear warm running gear as evenings getting colder but only if you feel you need it!!! anymore info on this run mail me to - [email protected] peace Always nice to help people around the Wicklow Mountains,
A group of runners from Rush Running Rush Running had asked me to guide them on a nice loop around the Wicklow Mountains, And so myself and Niall Corrigan took them off this morning with nice warm up along the Green Road and up past the Poulanass Water Fall meeting our good Friend Derek Cullen while walking his dog, and from there then meeting the great steep steps! ( I must say I love running up and down the steps GREAT interval taking ) and then you come out of the woods meeting the top with WOW views it takes all that pain away from the steps!!! Super good run taking some great views today sun was shining everywhere so you could see for miles! great day for the Rush runners... Living the Icy board walks and running onto the stone path to the bridge then the zig zags its wasn't as icy so most of us had ran down as fast as we could ACE!!! and the rest took their time not to fall etc... soon all down and got into a nice pace before running along the woods life beside the lake and WOW what a super day for that I Myself didn't want to go home! So soon as the 13k run was over myself and Niall Corrigan MSR Team runner went for a little more running and took home a nice 18:29km trail run... SO I hope you all had a super good run today and not letting the wicklow mountains put you off some more super trail running and we all see you very soon.. Thanks again for asking us to guide you all. its always better to be safe... Peace www.facebook.com/mudsweatandrunners Anyone up for a night run this week?
Tuesday the 30th at 7pm Glendalough Hotel Car-park, Run up Wicklow W - Paddock Hill - Brusher Gap - Dry Hill with loop back down to Paddock Hill - WW - then up Brockagh Woods around & down to hotel its in around 15k with some great hills and mucky trails. trail shoes is a must on this route and working head lights ( time to test your xmas gifts!! ) also wear warm running gear as evenings getting colder but only if you feel you need it!!! anymore info on this run mail me to - [email protected] or www.facebook.com/mudsweatandrunners peace People keep saying to me you might need to rest up juju your doing to much!!!!
I say what's to much? Why stop if your feeling fit and great. Yes I do lots of training everyday but like I say am feeling strong and fit, when I rest up I start getting lazy!!! So get out and stay fit. Eat great. Do lots of moving i.e. box and rock jumping etc. yoga, cycling and hiking or what ever you do best! and chat to people on FB cause you need your wee fingers to get stronger too!, Smile always cause when you feel that happy bean inside you, you then know you found that happy place you always looking for. Juju.. My review for Great Outdoors on the "LED LENSER SEO 7R"
Rechargeable - Lithium Ion battery pack that is environmentally friendly and you can still use 3 AAA alkaline Batteries for emergencies. You ever have a headlight that didn’t do the job? Where you might think cheaper is better? Well STOP worrying and get yourself the SEO 7R headlight, I’ve seen my share of headlights while taking people on my night runs and this has to be the best for wide beams just what you need for trail running. This headlight has the advanced focus system, A big circle of homogenous flood beam or the sharply focused long distance beam and automatic dimming function which you set and re-set yourself (Very smart) and lets not forget the emergency S.O.S flasher beam and a glare free LED red light for map reading at night, All this makes the SEO 7R one of the best headlights I’ve seen and its waterproof!! My first thoughts when I seen this headlight was In my opinion the casing looked a bit BIG and felt a little heavier then other headlights I’ve had in the past and wasn’t very comfortable on my forehead but maybe I got well used to my old headlight the “Petzl Tikka 2” which fits very nice on my forehead but with only 60 lumens (which at that time I thought was great) the “SEO 7R” has 220 lumens so you can run with every step fearless! Also the SEO 7R has a great tilting base for fast downward tilts so you can easily direct the light wherever you need it. It sure has a serious lighting beam that can be seen for miles and while running on the road’s by night the cars in front of you flash their headlights cause the SEO 7R is an high end power LED light, It also fits comfortable while wearing a hat or head buff, Must say it’s the best light I’ve ever had!! It is great for night running, mountain biking or hiking and also has exchangeable headbands and comes in other colors (mine is blue) like Green, Red or Black and there’ll all washable. PROS: 1: Headbands are ant allergic and easily removable, washable and changeable for new colors, 2: USB rechargeable and comes with its own charger (plug and USB cable), 3: Smart light technology, 4: Homogenous flood beam, 5: Burning life 5 hours, 6: Easy to use on/off switch for quick toggling between lights, 7: Price 79.99 Euro or 71:99e with your MSR loyalty card, CONS: 1: NO whistle like many other headlights I’ve had (you never know when you need one) 2: Feels heaver then other head lights and also bigger casing, 3: When recharging you must be carful not to take the lithium Ion battery out as it will re-set its self, www.greatoutdoors.ie www.facebook.com/mudsweatandrunners Well what another super duper XMAS MSR group run / party with very tough conditions on the open mountains on Saturday the 13th of Dec with snow on the higher grounds which wasn’t so hard to run on it was more the icy rocks which you can’t see till your on your ass!!!,
We couldn’t have asked for a better day nice and sunny and clear skies just the way we love it! so we started off at 9am from the Glendalough Hotel. for the 1st part of our run which was a great 18k route with nice tough climbs at the start ( GOOD WARM UP ) this route takes about 2hours with stops for pics and chats. but with the ice all over the place which slowed us down a lot we came home with just under 3hours but still having lots of fun!!! Once at top of Derrybawn Summit most of the faster runners ran ahead while I held back for the other runners to chat and take pics but soon catching up with few of the runners ahead of me on Mullacor so we re-grouped and made some films and took pics etc on such an great morning, there was so much fun going on with the group I just wanted to stay up there all day you can see all round you for miles BUT thats fine when you have the day to hang around etc and I didn’t as in the back of my head I had to be back to meet the 2nd group at noon!! So running down of steep Mullacor summit which was little tough again with the Icy trails my friend John Buckley had a bad fall as you might've seen in my film, thinking hat on here and time to slow down!! thanks John and hope your OK.. So passing the Wicklow Way sleepers at the end of Mullacor heading up the next hill to Lugduff and heading for the Spinc thats just one of the best routes up there you can run it all with out hiking and the faster the better! even the views are un-real!! So I had stopped to take few pics of the lads running down the packed up snow trail which am sure was great fun after all the falls people were having today! most of us made it down this trail nice and safe in till we met up with the Spinc Sleepers! I had got a call from my good pal Chris as he was a head with the faster runners thanks for that call dude, he told us the sleepers were VERY bad and very slippery which really was covered in ICE! so we had to run along side the sleepers in the freezing cold mud and very wet trails in till getting off the bad slippery sleepers ( at this time I was thinking about calling the 13k loop off ) and did in the end to be safe! So then coming off the sleepers meeting the rocky path all the way down to the bridge then little stop for pics and ran off again as we were running out of time with only like 40min to get back in time for the 2nd group run!! the pace had getting little faster but finding that hard on the Zig Zags as black ice all over the rocks!! soon came to the end of the Zig Zags and I had told the lads I've to run much faster now as only have little time to get back!! so the talking ended and race pace on on haha was good!. So back in time for BIG GROUP PICS! can’t miss them. few of the 18k runners went home and the rest of us got warmed up again after group pics was taken and started the 2nd group run. now I had called the 13k Spinc loop as it wasn’t the best to take a bigger group up there, so I had made a good route which was 11k and great views of Glendalough lakes and mountains with still few nice climbs to be done!! So we'd started running along the Green Road and many hikers were taking pic's of us cause were all in some xmas dress up etc which must have been so funny! I had made a film at this point you might have seen it on FB MSR page was all good fun!! our MSR team girls were also on route taking pics thanks girls, so our 1st climb started on route to Camaderry such is a great hill!!! but few of the 18k runners went back to the hotel for early beers!! so the rest of us ran on meeting the St kevin’s trail, Wicklow Way and soon Brockagh woods to lower and higher view points and back to hotel with a great 11k run and happy faces all round!! I was feeling the cold at this point but my day wasn’t over as some of us went for recovery dip in the river WOW that sure was freezing!!! but I didn’t mind to much as the party wasn't far away…..!!! So back to the hotel and WOW thats another story to tell !!!!!!! but a great one!!!!! thanks to all that made it to the MSR xmas runs and sorry for those that didn’t make it with work etc hope to see you all next year!! Peace and good JuJu!! Pics and films on link below... www.facebook.com/mudsweatandrunners Sunrise on the summit!
